The Maquette

Made of bronze material, or a similar finish, mounted on a raised stone plinth, probably in a water setting, the production of the monument will be funded entirely from voluntary donations, raised by the Project Vernon team. The setting allows even for illumination but it all adds to the cost...

Your first impressions? Let the Project Team know! We want to ensure that the finished monument reflects the entire community represented, so the broader the response at this stage, the more people will feel that their views have been fully represented.

 Planning Approval

On 22 March 2010, Project Vernon was given the go-ahead by Portsmouth City Council to progress the monument's development, valid for a period of three years:

“In the opinion of the Local Planning Authority the proposed bronze statue will represent an attractive addition to the prominent Vernon Basin at the western end of the water feature through Gunwharf Quays and to enhance the character and appearance of the ‘Gunwharf’ Conservation Area (No25).”
