PROJECT VERNON

Welcome to the campaign to design & install a monument dedicated to the Mine Warfare & Diving heritage of HMS Vernon in Portsmouth, Hampshire

Having a suitable monument to diving and mine warfare is a challenge that has been considered for many years. After various previous initiatives, we have made significant progress since April 2008, hence this website.
We now have an Artist's Impression of the final design, in the intended position. With a full Organising Management Committee fully in place, Registered Charity status achieved, outline planning approval from Portsmouth City Council, positive support from Gunwharf Quays Limited (the installation site owners) and the first funds raised towards the project... the project is gaining real momentum!

Our efforts over the next few months will be focused on finalising the design of the sculptor chosen, and raising over £250,000 to pay for the project production costs.
