Officially registered as a Charity in England and Wales, Number 1128677, as of 19th March 2009, the Vernon Momument campaign is gaining momentum monthly.

With an established Board of Trustees, representing serving and retired members of the Mine Warfare and Diving communities, to manage strategy and policy, the focus of the all-volunteer team of resources is now centred on fundraising, to secure the sums needed for construction of the monument.

In order to satisfy the various criteria to be "of public benefit" as a charity, the monument must be constructed of materials that will endure, be of significant design and impact to reflect and commemorate the heritage of the community defined and be clearly positioned in the public eye. Mounted in the sheltered waters at the western end of the Vernon Canal, this will surely prove to be an ideal location, we hope.
