Plan A

The Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Officers Association determined that it would be most appropriate to commemorate those personnel involved in Mine Warfare and Diving operations who were based at the site of the previous HMS Vernon during the past century. To achieve this, we wish to sponsor the construction and installation of an appropriate monument. Working in close partnership with the Association of Royal Naval First Class Divers, the Mine Warfare Association and other supporting bodies our design, now formally-approved, is very similar to the conceptual designs shown at right, drawn by and reproduced here courtesy of John R Terry FCSD: a single clearance diver, engaged dealing with a moored-type contact mine.
